Iowa Speedway opened in 2006 as a state-of-the-art racing facility designed with input from NASCAR legend Rusty Wallace. The 0.875-mile D-shaped oval features progressive banking in the corners that creates multiple racing lines and produces exciting competition. Known as “The Fastest Short Track on the Planet,” the track combines the intimate feel of short-track racing with the speed of larger speedways. Construction began in 2005, and the facility became the first track to install SAFER barriers around its entire perimeter, demonstrating a commitment to driver safety from the very beginning.
Located in Newton, Iowa, approximately 30 miles east of Des Moines off Interstate 80, the facility has a capacity of 30,000 and serves as a major motorsports destination in the Midwest. The ARCA Menards Series holds a special place in Iowa Speedway’s history, becoming the first racing series to compete at the track when Steve Wallace won the inaugural event on October 15, 2006. The track has hosted ARCA races continuously since opening and has produced a remarkable statistic: 14 different winners in 14 ARCA Menards Series races, demonstrating the competitive nature of racing on this challenging oval.
The ARCA Menards Series East will compete at Iowa Speedway on August 7, 2026, in a combination event with the ARCA Menards Series, joining NASCAR’s national series for a weekend of racing at this modern facility.
