Chicagoland Speedway opened in 2001 as a $130 million state-of-the-art facility, bringing premier motorsports to the Chicago metropolitan area. The 1.5-mile D-shaped tri-oval in Joliet, Illinois, was built through a partnership between International Speedway Corporation, Indianapolis Motor Speedway, and Menards. From its opening race, the speedway quickly established itself as a competitive intermediate track, hosting NASCAR’s three national series, IndyCar, and ARCA racing for nearly two decades.
Located in Joliet off Interstate 80 on 930 acres of land, the speedway served as a cornerstone of the community and a major sporting venue for the region. The facility featured a capacity of 75,000 at its peak and produced memorable racing, including serving as the NASCAR playoff opener from 2011-2017. The ARCA Menards Series competed at Chicagoland from 2001 through 2019, remarkably producing 14 different winners in 14 races. Racing ceased after the 2019 season, leaving the track dormant for several years.
The ARCA Menards Series will make its long-awaited return to Chicagoland Speedway on July 3, 2026, as part of an Independence Day weekend celebration that includes NASCAR Cup Series and Xfinity Series racing, marking the first ARCA race at the facility in seven years.
