Phoenix Raceway
Phoenix Raceway opened in 1964 as Phoenix International Raceway, built by Richard Hogue in the foothills of the Estrella Mountains. The 1-mile tri-oval features a distinctive dogleg configuration on the backstretch, originally designed to accommodate both oval and road course racing. In 2011, the track underwent major renovations including repaving and the addition of progressive banking ranging from 8 to 11 degrees in the turns. A $178 million modernization completed in 2018 relocated the start/finish line and transformed the facility into a state-of-the-art venue with 42,000 seating capacity.
Located in Avondale, Arizona, just west of Phoenix, the track earned the nickname “Desert Oddball” for its unique layout. The first NASCAR-sanctioned race came in 1977 when Cale Yarborough won a Winston West Series event. The ARCA Menards Series began racing at Phoenix in 2020 following NASCAR’s acquisition of ARCA, while the ARCA Menards Series West has competed there since 1977, making it one of the series’ longest-running venues.
Phoenix hosts two ARCA events in 2026. The March race is a combination event with both the ARCA Menards Series and ARCA Menards Series West competing together, while October features a standalone ARCA West race during a NASCAR national series weekend.
