Talladega Superspeedway opened in 1969 as NASCAR founder Bill France Sr.’s vision to create the world’s fastest racetrack. Built on a 2,000-acre site in the Alabama foothills, the massive 2.66-mile tri-oval features 33 degrees of banking, making it both the longest and highest-banked track in NASCAR. Construction began in May 1968, with the first race held in September 1969. The track’s extreme speeds approaching 200 mph and pack racing have produced some of motorsports’ most dramatic moments and closest finishes.
Located in Lincoln, Alabama, approximately 50 miles east of Birmingham, the speedway covers roughly 3,000 acres. The ARCA Menards Series competed at Talladega during the track’s inaugural season, with Jim Vandiver winning the first ARCA race. Over 55 ARCA events have been contested on the high banks, launching careers of future NASCAR stars including Mark Martin, Davey Allison, and Justin Allgaier while providing crucial superspeedway experience for developing drivers.
The ARCA Menards Series will return to Talladega Superspeedway in April 2026 as part of a NASCAR tripleheader weekend, continuing the series’ tradition of thrilling competition on America’s most competitive superspeedway.
